According to an official press release, the Season 4 Tournament winner will take the toughest test of his young career on October 15 at Bellator 54 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Adding another layer of complexity to an already stiff task, Alvarez also happens to hail from Philadelphia meaning his supporters from ?The City of Brotherly Love? are only about an hour?s drive away from the Boardwalk Hall Ballroom where the event is taking place.
?Fighting this close to home on this big of stage is awesome,? Alvarez replied when asked about the show?s location. ?I?ve never lost a fight in the States, and I certainly don?t plan on losing this one. I?ve never had this much time to prepare for a fight, and you?re going to see that preparation on display (at Bellator 54).?
?I watched the (tournament) very closely, and was really impressed with a lot of the competition,? the 22-2 fighter continued. ?Knowing that Chandler is my opponent, I?ve already gone back and started to watch film, and I?ll be ready. He brings a really good pace, and it?s going to be a great fight.?
The feeling of respect is mutual between the two as evident in the 25-year old Xtreme Couture product?s response to his highly-touted opponent.
?Eddie is obviously a world class lightweight, but in a lot of the fights I have watched no one has really pushed the pace against him,? Chandler explained. ?I want to put him on his heels, and make him respond to what I?m doing in the cage. I?ve got a few months to prepare, and I?ll be more than ready on October 15.?
Chandler earned his opportunity against Alvarez after taking out Marcin Held, Lloyd Woodard, and Patricky ?Pitbull? Freire this past spring and improving his record to 8-0 in the process. He currently has an even split between submission/strike-based stoppages with a trio of each.
Though Alvarez doesn?t possess Chandler?s perfect record, the well-rounded champion is considered to be one of the top 155ers in the world with wins finishes against Toby Imada, Josh Neer, Roger Huerta, and Tatsuya Kawajiri. His last fight came in April where he beat Pat Curran via Unanimous Decision.
