Crash Course: Strikeforce "Fedor vs. Henderson" Edition

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to the latest edition of ?Crash Course?. ?Crash Course? is a series of articles designed to give readers a quick rundown on all the relevant information they need to know heading into an upcoming major MMA event. Everything from why you should watch, what you should expect in the co-main and main event, and even where and when you can find it on TV is all covered in detail. So let?s get right to it with today?s edition, featuring Strikeforce?s ?Fedor vs. Henderson?.

The Event: Strikeforce ?Fedor vs. Henderson, currently scheduled for July 30, 2011 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The main card will be broadcast live on the Showtime network starting at 10 PM ET and PT.

Why You Should Care: The main event between Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson is a ?dream fight? for any longtime follower of the sport. If that wasn?t good enough, you?ve also got a championship on the line. And to top it all off, you?ve got a trifecta of interesting non-title match-ups that will more than likely determine the next people to compete for a Strikeforce championship.

What to Look Forward to in the Main Event: Fedor Emelianenko needs a win badly, and Dan Henderson wants to beat the MMA icon in hopes of becoming one himself. They?ll come out of their corners of the cage without any hesitation and looking to dramatically finish each other. It?s a battle of legends, and it has all the makings of a legendary fight.

What to Look Forward to in the Co-Main Event: So far, Marloes Coenen has been both hot and cold at 135 pounds. She?ll need to be on her A-game when tackling the unique challenges that Meisha Tate poses. This is simply a matter of the two best fighters in a division fighting each other, and this fight has several interesting possibilities that should all make for an excellent encounter.

Why You Should Watch This Card: With just one event, Strikeforce will bring some stability after the Zuffa purchase shook the promotion to its core. With this event, we?ll know where both Fedor and Henderson stands. We?ll know if championship-level women?s fighting has a place near the top of an MMA card. We?ll know who will challenge for the Middleweight Championship, and we?ll also probably know the two men who will battle to win the vacant Welterweight Championship. There?s a lot on the line for this event, and if that motivates all the fighters to bring their best, this should be one of the best cards of the year.

Why You Shouldn?t Watch This Card: I honestly can?t think of a reason, so I?m taking the road far less traveled and omitting this section from this entry into my ?Crash Course? series. No matter who you are, you should probably watch this event. It?s just that good.

Closing Thoughts: Outside of the UFC, I have to say that this is my most-anticipated event for the rest of the year. I sincerely hope that my favorites like Fedor Emelianenko pull through, and I look forward to what should be some very memorable encounters. With the way Strikeforce has changed since the Zuffa purchase, many people think that Strikeforce is on life support and will be gone soon. But even if Strikeforce will soon be no more, at least it?s going to go down in a blaze of glory, promoting great events and awesome fights up until the very end.
