Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of my special series ?A Closer Look?. Whenever there?s a really big MMA event about to happen, I like to take the time to examine each and every main card fight in-depth in order to fully give my thoughts on the latest mega-card. And it doesn?t get much more ?mega? than Strikeforce?s upcoming ?Fedor vs. Henderson? event. It?s an event so big that even the undercard is filled with stars, which is traditionally only something the UFC has been able to boast lately. So let?s dive right in with the first in a six-part series: this is ?A Closer Look At Fedor vs. Henderson?, and these are the can?t-miss prelims.
The ?Fedor vs. Henderson? prelims start out with a fight between Bryan Humes and Gabriel Salinas Jones. This is a bit more up Strikeforce?s alley, with both men not having much of a name. At the time of this post hitting the net, Jones doesn?t even have a profile on Sherdog?s ridiculously-massive ?FightFinder? network. Currently, Bryan Hume is 6-1 with four stoppage victories and hasn?t competed since May of last year.
After that we get Derek Bronson taking on Lumumba Sayers. Brunson is a perfect 7-0 with six stoppage wins and is coming off of a decision win at Strikeforce?s ?Challengers 16? event. Sayers is 4-1 with all four victories by submission.
Next up, Alexis Davis faces Julie Kedzie in the lone female fight on the ?Fedor vs. Henderson? preliminary card. Davis is currently an experienced 9-4 and has won two of her last three bouts, winning both of them by Rear Naked Choke. Julie Kedzie is even more experienced at 16-8 and is currently on a four-fight win-streak.
We start to get into the real meat of the ?Fedor vs. Henderson? prelims with an interesting encounter between Eduardo Pamplona and Tyler Stinson. Pamplona makes his ?Arena Series? debut after a blistering first-round TKO win at Strikeforce ?Challengers 16?. Pamplona?s record stands at a quite enviable 15-2: he lost at the beginning of his career, and then to Robbie Lawler in 2007.
Tyler Stinson, meanwhile, has a near-ridiculous record of 20-7, which is crazy because he?s only been competing since the summer of 2006. At one point, Stinson competed seven times in one year. From 2008 to 2010, Stinson competed five times per year. Stinson has eighteen of his twenty wins via some form of stoppage (thirteen (T)KO?s and five submissions).
And in a fight that should?ve made the main card if it weren?t for all the other intriguing match-ups, the preliminary card of ?Fedor vs. Henderson? boasts the return of Gesias Cavalcante. ?JZ? is still hunting for his first win in Strikeforce: he recently went to a No Contest against Justin Wilcox thanks to an unfortunate eye poke, and he lost his first Strikeforce fight thanks to a very controversial decision. Cavalcante is a veteran of over twenty fights and has competed all around the world.
His opponent, Bobby Green, is a veteran of almost twenty fights. This will be Green?s Strikeforce debut, and he?s got his work cut out for him. Nevertheless, Green has won four out of his last five fights and has won thirteen of his fifteen wins by stoppage.
Overall, I think this preliminary card is going to be pretty good and I?m a bit let down that I may not be able to see it. Hopefully Strikeforce is able to work out some type of eleventh-hour deal to get these prelims in front of the public.
