Bellator 47's debut in Canada ended on a sour note when a technical-striking affair between Pat Curran and Ronnie "Kid Ninja" Mann turned into a slow grind-out session. It saw Curran throw Mann off his game and make it difficult to get anything going before the end of the third round.
The win gave Curran a golden ticket to fight for a title shot, potentially opposite Joe Warren or Patricio "Pitbull" Freire. The latter if Bjorn Rebney so chooses to grant Freire his shot upon being cleared to fight for the belt before or after Warren's run in Bellator's Season Five bantamweight tournament. The winner of which will be likely have a season six, season seven or season eight date opposite Bellator world bantamweight champion Zack "Fun Size" Makovsky.
Nevermind Makovsky or Freire for right now, as those two are irrelevant to the current menace that will overcome Curran in the featherweight final.
Who will overcome Curran in the featherweight final, you ask?
The man who brought it to Nazareno Malegarie for three rounds and punched his own ticket to the Bellator 145 lbs. final. Only this man could manage to be a menace to both the current champion and the only man standing in the way of the title shot he wants to earn in front of a national television audience as well as a jam-packed crowd at Bellator 48.
Of course, I could only be talking about the man who is not only your winner of the Bellator Featherweight Summer Series, but also the next Bellator featherweight champion, Marlon Sandro.
Now what makes me so sure of this?
It's partial admitted bias--a Black House/Team Nogueira/Nova Uniao bias I refuse to disguise or sugarcoat--but it's also a stylistic flaw that Curran possesses as well as a chink in Warren's armor that Marcos Galvao exposed in their fight last season.
Everything a casual fan needs to know about Pat Curran's game, they could have easily learned this week, even though his grappling was never on display.
