‘Mayhem’ Miller takes his talents to the UFC

Jason "Mayhem" Miller, a veteran of Strikeforce and DREAM and the star of MTV's "Bully Beatdown" has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC after his Strikeforce deal expired, as reported by MMA Fighting and confirmed by Miller's Twitter account.

He plans to fight in the UFC's middleweight division:

"I will beat the brakes off most of the guys in the middleweight divisions in the UFC," he said. "I guaran-damn-tee it."

Miller hasn't fought since a DREAM win over the legendary Kazushi Sakuraba in September 2010. His last Strikeforce bout was a year ago in Nashville. He won over Tim Stout, then jumped in the cage after Jake Shields' win, sparking a brawl resulted in suspensions. He has fought in the UFC before: one loss to now-welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre.

This is the first big signing of a former Strikeforce fighter since Zuffa, the UFC's parent company, bought Strikeforce. At the time of the purchase, UFC president Dana White said that business would continue as usual and that the UFC and Strikeforce would continue to compete for fighters. Miller's contract had expired, and he hadn't had any Strikeforce fights in more than a year.

UFC 129 Results: Georges St. Pierre's Streak Ends, Next Up Middleweight Division

It finally happened. A judge scored a round in favor of Georges St-Pierre's opponent. Jake Shields did the unthinkable and ended GSP's streak of winning 30 straight rounds.

GSP had come out with the intent of finishing Shields and had Shields visibly rocked and beaten early on, but ended the fight the usual way, with a unanimous decision victory.

Shields proved something to the crowd at Toronto tonight:

1) GSP can bleed

2) GSP can lose a round

3) Shields has better standup then we all thought

Put this streak into perspective. It's like Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak, but for the sport of MMA. It's nearly impossible to pull off a feat like GSP did.

Not only did the fight signal the end to GSP's miraculous streak, it could signal GSP's end as welterweight champion.

GSP has a lot of time to get used to walking around at 185 pounds. Yushin Okami is facing Anderson Silva in late August, so it gives GSP plenty of time to mull this decision over.

There quite possibly can't be anyone left for GSP to face at welterweight. Now that he's beaten Shields, there is no one left.

After failing to finish Shields and going on to win his fourth straight fight by decision, it's time to move up and challenge him.

The mega-fight between him and Anderson Silva is not the answer to start of GSP. A fight against a lower opponent is what GSP needs. He needs a fight to get acclimated first, to get his feet wet. A possible matchup against Alan Belcher could be in store.

Belcher is set to return in September which would give GSP plenty of time to recover and get ready for a jump up.

Whatever is in store for GSP next, the middleweight division is GSP's next move.

UFC 129 asks who is better, Canada or U.S.?

UFC 129 is more than a record-breaking MMA event that will pack 55,000 into the Rogers Centre in Toronto to see two championship belts decided. It's also a face-off between American and Canadian fighters to decide which country is better. Cagewriter breaks it down for you. Which North American country does it better?

GSP vs. Shields: Everything is going for GSP. He's fighting in front of a home crowd, he's at the height of his hype and he's considered invincible, which is exactly why I don't think he'll win. If Shields gets it to the ground, GSP is in trouble. Advantage: Shields and the U.S.

Signature food -- poutine vs. pizza: Poutine, french fries top with cheese curds and brown gravy, sounds amazing. However, pizza -- a food with an ancestor in Italy but that is singularly American -- is much better. It is customizable, yummy when hot and cold, can be made to look like Yoda and everyone loves it. Advantage: U.S.

Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson: BenHen needs to erase the memory of being on the wrong end of the Anthony Pettis highlight reel. That incentive is enough to get the former WEC champ the win. Advantage: Henderson and the U.S.

National anthems -- "O Canada" vs. "The Star-Spangled Banner": The U.S. national anthem, when sung well, can tear the house down, but it's not easy for an average person to sing.� That's not true of "O Canada." During the Vancouver Olympics, Canadians showed how easy it was to sing their anthem. Advantage: Canada

National animal: For America, it's the bald eagle, a strong, proud bird that can pick off prey from a mile away. Canada's, which can seen on the header of the new Yahoo! Sports Blog, The Eh Game, is the beaver. Advantage: the U.S.

Nate Diaz vs. Rory McDonald: Does Canada have a Stockton equivalent? Nah The baddest fighters come from Cali, not Quebec. Advantage: U.S.

Other sports: Well, Canada did just win a figure skating world championship and the Canucks knocked my Blackhawks out of the playoffs, and they won the gold medal in both men's and women's hockey at the Vancouver Olympics. Canadians also excel at curling. Outside of that, America rules. Football, baseball, basketball -- I'll take Derrick Rose over Steve Nash -- we're better. We'll give you hockey, Canada. We'll take the rest. Advantage: U.S.

Other fights: On the other UFC 129 Canada vs. U.S. fights, my picks are Makdessi, Patrick, Jabouin for Canada and Ellenberger, Valencia, Jensen for the U.S.

The final tally: America wins, 8-4.

Finishes galore at UFC 129: Menjivar takes his turn with 90-second pummeling of Valencia

The undercard fighters are setting some standard for the stars at UFC 129 to live up to. After three awesome finishes to begin UFC 129, Ivan Menjivar kept pace by smashing Charlie Valencia's nose and finishing the fight via TKO just seconds later. After nearly seven years away, Menjivar made a triumphant return to the UFC with a bantamweight win at 1:30 of the first round.

The 5-foot-6 Menjivar fought all over the world since a UFC 48 loss to Matt Serra. That fight was at 155 pounds, but at just 5-foot-6 Menjivar was fighting way out of his true weight class. Along the way, Menjivar faced much bigger fighters like Hideo Tokoro, Joe Lauzon, Caol Uno and Bart Palaszewski. Back in 2002, he even faced the current UFC 170-pound champion Georges St-Pierre.

He was the bigger fighter tonight and that was evident the first time he and Valencia clinched. Menjivar (23-8, 1-1 UFC) got his left arm free and landed a huge elbow across the face of the Californian. Valencia (12-8, 0-1 UFC) went down immediately where Menjivar unloaded 13 more shots. Referee Big John McCarthy and UFC color analyst said they thought Valencia's nose was broken.

Patrick edges Roberts to close out Facebook stream

Claude Patrick tested himself against an excellent jiu-jitsu practitioner and showed he can grapple with the best of them. The Canadian used a well-rounded attack to outpoint Daniel Roberts, 29-28 on three scorecards, to win fight No. 5 at UFC 129.
