Bellator 38 Results: Light Heavyweights Deliver, Bellator Sees A Second Inverted Triangle

With another live, weekly event on the MTV2 network over and done with, the upstart Bellator Fighting Championship promotion is now only a couple of events shy of the forty-event mark. It?s been a long time coming for the promotion that prides itself on blistering action in a tournament format. And in typical Bellator fashion, Bellator 38 saw several exciting finishes and, if you can believe it, the second finish by Inverted Triangle in Bellator history. Apparently lightning can strike twice. Here are the full results as well as some commentary on Bellator 38.

Tim Carpenter defeats Daniel Gracie via split decision. D.J. Linderman defeats Raphael Davis via TKO (punches) at 3:40 of R3. Richard Hale defeats Nik Fekete via technical submission (inverted triangle) at 1:55 of Round 1. Christian M?Pumbu defeats Chris Davis via TKO (strikes) at 3:34 of Round 3. Austin Lyons defeats Jimmy Van Horn via submission (armbar) at 2:10of Round 1. Jake Underwood defeats Tim Galluzzi via submission (triangle choke) at 1:04 of Round 1. Cody Donovan defeats Brian Albin via unanimous decision. Blagov Imanov defeats William Penn via TKO at 2:58 of Round 1. Amaechi Oselukwue defeats Abe Wilson via unanimous decision.

I?ll be honest fans and friends: I wasn?t able to watch this show. I was removed from my usual viewing area, and unfortunately I didn?t have access to the MTV2 network both during the initial broadcast and its replay. I don?t enormously regret missing this show, because I was able to watch the Facebook broadcast of UFC Fight Night 24 and that mostly made up for it. But looking at the results and some scattered videos I?ve found online, it seems like I missed a pretty solid event. So part of me does regret not being able to watch this show.

I can say this for certain, though: I?m going to do my best to not make this a habit. I talked about needing one more show in order to fully declare Bellator my new ?dark horse favorite?, and it looks like that show will have to be Bellator 39. But even if Bellator doesn?t pull ahead of the pack and even if I still struggle to name a promotion my replacement to the WEC, I would definitely consider myself a fan of Bellator at this point in time. I?ve liked all of their events so far, and I plan to watch them as often as I can. So there?s really no other word to describe me other than ?fan?.

I?ll end by saying this: the big video that?s going around online right now is Richard Hale?s Inverted Triangle over Nik Fekete. I definitely managed to track down that video, and as of this article?s publication I?ve watched the video at least five times. It?s simply an amazing submission, and it?s a testament to Bellator?s fighters that we?ve now seen two Inverted Triangle wins. It?s finishes like that, plus strikes like Anderson Silva?s Front Face Kick of Death and Anthony Pettis? Wall-Walk Cage Kick that leads me to believe that we haven?t even scratched the surface of the true potential of this sport.

And what about you, fans and friends? For those of you that did watch the show, what?s your opinion on Bellator 38?
