I've said it before, and I'll say multiple times in the future: Kenny Florian's situation is a very interesting one in the world of MMA.
Come Saturday night, Florian will be making UFC history as the first man to fight in four divisions, but he will also be coming in with a bit of motivation when he faces Diego "The Gun" Nunes.
His motivation: He's the only guy in MMA history who has fought in four divisions just to get his hands on one title.
The fight with Nunes will show us if in fact Florian was too light for the stacked 155-lb. division, or if he was too hasty in making the decision to drop to 145.
Now what Florian needs to do in the actual fight to beat Nunes has a tiny bit more to do with the drop than it does to beating Nunes.
Florian is a smart fighter who never goes crazy with his striking or tries wildly to submit people, and in this fight, he definitely needs to make Nunes look sloppy from any and every angle.
Also, some wrestling wouldn't hurt, as the wrestling and guard play of Nunes have been seen as the primary flaws in Nunes' game, so a lack of focus on Wrestling may translate to subpar takedown defense.
As stated before, though, we know Florian can strike, he can box, he can throw Hell-bows, he can submit people, take their best shots—there's not a whole lot that Florian is incapable of doing, to be honest.
What he needs to do, however, is prove that he can do everything he was able to do in his somewhat-successful stint at Lightweight—and maybe even better than how he did it at Lightweight—at the Featherweight level.
Guys like Tom Boetsch and Urijah Faber have proven that they can fight at a different division and that they could do so successfully while staying in shape, whereas guys like Dustin Hazelett have dropped to a lower weight class and faltered.
All Kenny Florian must do if show the world that he the same Kenny Florian, except 10 pounds slimmer, and if he does that..
...Look out, Jose Aldo—KenFlo could come a-knocking.
